Rainy Day at Band Camp
Vitals
Rainy Day at Band Camp, general midi, preferably of poor quality.
You might call this my "Opus 1". You might also consider undergoing psychiatric evaluation.
Background and Words of Caution
This lovely little diddy was the first piece of music I wrote that was ever fixed in any sort of media that could be played back. I wrote it in the late 1990s, before I had any thoughts whatsoever about even the remotest possibility of becoming a composer. I had a website. It was the late 1990s. Many, perhaps most, websites at the time had midi playing when you visited them, and that was, oddly enough, considered acceptable. Not to be left behind, I downloaded some shareware and whipped up this musical gem.
Below is a link to Rainy Day at Band Camp, or, rather, the page that it was, and still is, hosted on. The page changed a bit in the few years I (very, very, rarely) maintained it, but the look and feel is indicative of the era in which it was written. Painfully, eye-bleedingly indicative. Every graphic on the page, except for the flying paper airplane email, I made myself using the free tools of the day. If you so dare, you may visit it, in its animated-gif, solarized-background, hopelessly-whiny-nerd glory, at the link below.
Please note that the website below has not been modified in any way since 1998. It is preserved in pristine condition, in all its broken-link, holy-crap-on-a-stick-this-guy-is-a-huge-nerd glory, as a sort of historical monument to what some people considered acceptable for a website in the late 90s. A cautionary tale, if you will. Browsing with Firefox demanded that I install plugins and allow scripts. Browsing with Opera nearly destroyed my speakers. Internet Explorer had no complaints (save asking me if I was really, really sure I wanted to listen to that), which is probably an even more disturbing indicator. I urge you not to proceed, but if you must, do so with caution.
I do not recommend it.
I advise against it.
If you do decide to click on the link, please brace yourself for the visual horror that is alexs81's central website, the original and continuing host of Rainy Day at Band Camp.
Listen, and divert your eyes
AlexS81's Central Website, and Rainy Day at Band Camp in its natural habitat, as the composer intended it to be experienced.
